How to host a spooky and sophisticated dinner party this Halloween

Set the scene for some festive fun with these Halloween-ready designs from Dior, Loewe, and Lalique

If you feel like your trick-or-treating days are behind you and boisterous costume parties are not for you, then perhaps your best – but no less fun – option is to host a Halloween dinner party. Below, we share tips for making a photoshoot-worthy spread that manages to toe the line between spooky and sophisticated.

Serve up your fare on witchy tableware

This new ‘Constellation’ collection of witchy tableware from Dior is the most delightfully lavish addition to any Halloween dinner. The collection features pumpkin-shaped bowls by ceramics workshop Jean Roger, black and white crystal glasses, and plates featuring Albrecht Dürer-like illustrations of tarot card motifs by Italian artist Pietro Ruffo.

    Cue the mood lighting

These black candleholders and matching candles from Loewe are the perfect way to cast some eerie light over your dinner table. Their liquorice scent will bring a powerfully aromatic woody smell to your dinner location, the perfect fragrant accompaniment to a Halloween gathering.

    Create an autumnal bouquet

Decorate the table with some autumnal blooms, such as this arrangement from London-based florist Ronny Colbie. Colbie suggests gathering dahlias, chocolate cosmos, hydrangeas and proteas in yellows, dark purples and oranges to make a standout bouquet.

Lalique, which recently opened a fine dining restaurant at a distillery in Scotland, can always bring drama to a table with its striking decorative designs. For a vase you’ll want to display well past Halloween, consider investing in one of the brand’s exceptional black or orange crystal vases. We’re especially fond of its ‘Mûres’ vases, a classic design that features an interlocking pattern of thorny blackberry bush stems.
